Artist Statement

I started out with an early interest in drawing and watercolor, focusing on that until I was about 30. Then I started making things in steel, took a few figure modeling classes at Lyme Academy of Fine Art, and a 3-D class as a requirement for an illustration program I was in at
RISD. Gail Whitsitt-Lynch was my sculpture mentor in Providence for three years, opening my eyes to direct carving. I've since taken courses at the Vermont Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in stone, steel and casting.

I've exhibited in a 2 person show at Mitchell College, New London, CT, been represented at Sylvan Gallery in Clinton, CT and am an artist member of CAFA and Mystic Art Center.

I believe that we as are created in God's image, so we CREATE in God's image.
We are, as God is, creators. We create our lives, our homes, our surroundings, the attitudes and atmosphere in which we live. Creating is a spiritual function / activity. Everyone is a creative being, whether it be their family, their dinner, doll clothes, Christmas trees, gardens, music, poetry, a congenial work atmosphere, mathematics, whatever. I think the creative spirit should be encouraged in everyone, and people need to be allowed to find their own voice.

I take inspiration from nature, mythic figures and stories universal to the human condition. My current pieces are more allegorical than representational.
