A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Since the virtual CAFA+ Members Show was initiated three years ago, we have noticed that our membership has steadily grown, and the numbers have been building with submissions. During this period of the winter doldrums post-holiday season, we have had fun re-connecting with our current artist population while welcoming newcomers aboard who have sought a new organization to belong to and benefit from with their art practice. We love welcoming ALL of you and familiarizing ourselves with you and your individual backgrounds.

This year’s CAFA+ Members show ignited 126 artists from 14 different states throughout the US and one of our far-flung artist members from Germany! 65 Elected artists are represented here along with 61 of our Supporting and Associate artist members.

Our four award winner’s works were outstanding and offered a varied range of fine artistic ability. Congratulations to the well-earned four, and many thanks to all of you who entered this year!

The 2023 Annual Juried Show will be back at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT for six weeks, in late spring into early summer. We hope you will join us for another gallery show and enjoy a fun and festive opening reception in the beautiful Sill House Gallery.

As always, we are grateful to have such a supportive and enthusiastic group of CAFA members and we thank all of you for entrusting us with this 112 year old organization in which we can reciprocate the generous support by providing an outlet for your dedication and devotion to the arts.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It is always a pleasure and an inspiration to witness and be part of such an explosion of creativity and artistic integrity as seen in the CAFA+ Members exhibition each year. This year is yet another achievement for the CAFA community of artists as the diversity and inventiveness of each work submitted has reached new heights of artistic expression and exploration. This is a valuable forum for the practicing artist as we pursue the often difficult and illusive process of visual artistic vision and expression. We are ever encouraged and reaffirmed by the valiant effort each artist contributes as we strive to understand better the nature of our own artistry and discover what imagery is uniquely our own. Congratulations to all who participated in this vital and meaningful endeavor! We look forward to gathering together in person again for our annual juried exhibition this coming summer hosted by the Lyme Academy of Fine Art in the Sill gallery.

Peace and salutations to all,

William C. Butcher

JURORS' STATEMENT

It was an honor to be asked to judge the work of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. The CAFA membership encompasses a wonderfully talented group of artists.

The works submitted gave us a wide range of subject matter and medium to choose from. They were diverse, thought provoking, and well executed. That being said, we had a daunting task to select the winners.

We decided collectively to view the works on our own and then come together to find our common selections. It was our goal to have the winners reflect the variety of subject matter and media submitted to the show.

In addition to the winners, the caliber of work was astounding! The visual arts are alive and well in Connecticut. The artistic standards are high – evident in the works presented. Viewing all the work was and is inspirational.

Congratulations to the prize winners. Well deserved!
