Ralph Acosta

A native New Yorker, I moved to Stonington CT in 2005.

My artistic ability began in my early teens with drawings and self taught in oil painting.

I was eventually introduced to the teachings of Edgar Whitney, the renowned watercolorist at National Art League in Douglaston NY.  He opened my mind to the freedom, transparency and spontaneity of watercolors.  I studied with Whitney for several years and eventually became an instructor at the N.A.L. for 18 years.

I have performed many demos for numerous art leagues throughout Westchester and Long Island NY. I have also conducted many plein air workshops including a week in Puerto Rico as well as a Northeast coast painting cruise.

I am a member of Hudson Valley Art Assn, National Art League N.Y., Elected Artist at Mystic Museum of Art, Elected Artist at Lyme Art Assn, CT Watercolor Society, CT Academy of Fine Arts, a Core Artist of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport and former member

of Salmagundi Club in NYC. I have participated in numerous exhibitions and have been the recipient of many awards.

I am represented at the following galleries: Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport, Mystic Museum of Art, Lyme Art Assn. and Finer Line Gallery in Mystic.
