Bruce Horn

Bruce Horn is a Professor Emeritus of Art at Northern Arizona University.

Drawing and painting became routine activities while growing up in Circleville, Ohio. The art instruction he received and visits to art museums as a youngster were significant influences in his development as an artist.

He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Miami University and worked as a package designer at Diamond International Corporation. Horn’s studies continued at The Ohio State University where he received a Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in printmaking.

A full-time teaching career began with a faculty position at Blackburn College in Illinois. Bruce Horn has taught studio courses in painting, printmaking, drawing, two-dimensional design and color theory at the university level for thirty years.

In addition to local and regional shows, Horn’s artwork has been included extensively in national juried and international exhibitions. Bruce Horn has been honored with academic grants as well as numerous exhibition awards for his art.

Bruce’s recently published book (2020), The Art of Being an Artist, is filled with 80 color reproductions that illustrate the theory, techniques and history of being an artist. Many of the reproductions are examples of important artists throughout history. The writing includes actual accounts of creative challenges and teaching experiences that impart a personal dimension to the text.
