Mary Horrigan has loved art for as long as she can remember. While still in high school, she won a scholarship to the Cleveland Art Institute and attended Saturday morning classes for two years.

Also interested in languages, she earned a degree in French, and after college taught at the high school and college levels in the Cleveland area, but always knowing she’d return to painting one day.

When her husband’s job took them to the Dayton, Ohio area in 1980, no language teaching jobs were available, and Mary started taking watercolor classes. She attended workshops in the area, studying with nationally recognized watercolorists Edgar Whitney, Marilyn Phillis, and Frank Webb.

After moving to the Hartford area in 1984, she was elected to membership in the Connecticut Watercolor Society. She is a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Artists, and holds associate memberships in the New England and American Watercolor Societies.

For the past several years, she has taught watercolor classes at Manchester Community College.
