Mary O Davidson

(413) 528-6945

Ever since Mary Davidson was a little girl, she has been designing and creating fashions and fashion accessories. When she was twelve, she started making play outfits for her little sisters, square dance clothes for her mother and school clothes for herself. Later she attended the Newbury Fashion Institute in Boston and sold clothes at a boutique on Newbury Street that featured her own designs. Nowadays, she has found a way to combine her fashion sense with her whimsical and playful artistic sense.

"My paintings are a two-dimensional decorative visualization of my work in fashion design." Mary says. "They are highly colorful, using a stylized silhouette of one or more fashion figures. As you begin to study the paintings, you will find the foreground and background are merged with overlaid patterns, but because of color changes, the figure emerges. I love the intense complexity and ambiguity of space and dimension. The effect is startling: the longer you look at the piece, the more you see." Some of the paintings reflect this more then others.

"I am passionate about painting and I love it!"

Mary has participated in many local and national shows on the east coast, often winning awards including Best In Show and Awards of Excellence, She is a member of the prestigious National Association of Women Artists, NYC. Locally, she is a member of the Housatonic Valley Art League and the Kent Art Association where she has won awards and been a judge for several competitive shows.

In the past she has been represented by, The Lenox Gallery of Fine Art, Lenox, MA; 510 Gallery, Hudson, NY; Vermont Artisan Designs, Brattleboro, VT; and Gallery Chatham, Chatham, NY.

Mary was born and grew up in Pittsfield, MA, and currently lives in South Egremont, MA: with her husband who is also an artist.
