I use an improvisational process of painting overlays of organic forms using acrylic paint with controlled descriptive mark making. They portray aerial and similarly unexpected perspectives of coastlines, marshes, forests and rivers. These bird’s-eye views provide map-like vantage points that seem to expand far beyond their open compositions. The play of figure-ground and shifting relationships appears to represent both alien topographies and spatially familiar locations.
